NotesJoe

The Garmin GPSMAP 67i is the map that also texts. 230 g. 3-inch transflective color TFT. IPX7. MIL-STD-810. Preloaded TopoActive. Multi-band GNSS. Two-way inReach and interactive SOS. No photo. No voice.

Is the Garmin GPSMAP 67i a messenger or a GPS

Both, at a cost. Battery with inReach at ten minutes is up to 165 hours. That is shorter than Mini 3 at 350 hours and Messenger Plus at 600 hours in low-power mode. Operating window is −20 to 60°C. 16 GB on board. User space varies.

Warranty is one year from Garmin US or an authorized US reseller. Repair or replace. You pay freight. Origin for this model is unpublished.

Carry it when the phone is the thing you do not want to depend on. Skip it when 230 g is the argument.

Best satellite communicator for desert hiking is the roundup. Garmin inReach Mini 3 is the lighter color-screen sibling.

Questions

Does the Garmin GPSMAP 67i send photos?

No. It is text and SOS. Photo and 30-second voice sit on the Messenger Plus. Mini 3 is text only. If the message has to be a picture of the injury, that is a different unit.

Can it navigate without a phone?

Yes. Preloaded TopoActive maps, multi-band GNSS, and a 3-inch color TFT. Messenger Plus has no preloaded basemap and cannot load maps. Mini 3 has a basic basemap. Mapping for those two happens on a paired phone in the Garmin Explore app. This one is the standalone navigator.

How long does the battery last with inReach on?

Official figure is up to 165 hours with inReach at a 10-minute interval. GPS-only is 180 hours. Expedition with inReach is 425 hours. Full sky view is assumed.

Is a subscription required?

Yes for messaging, tracking, and SOS. Maps on the device do not replace the inReach plan. Confirm live rates on Garmin’s US site. Activation is a separate fee.
